Angle Steel

Angle steel, also known as angle iron, is a versatile structural steel shape with a distinctive L-shaped cross-section. It's widely used in various construction and industrial applications due to its strength, durability, and ease of fabrication.

Types:

· Equal Leg Angle: Both legs of the angle have the same length

· Unequal Leg Angle: The two legs have different lengths.

· Back-to-Back Angle: Two angle sections are joined back-to-back to form a stronger, wider section.

· Mitered Angle: An angle cut at a specific angle, often used for decorative purposes.

Specifications and Standards

· ASTM A36: Standard Specification for carbon structural steel.

· ASTM A572: Standard for high-strength low-alloy columbium-vanadium steels.

· ASTM A588: Standard Specification for high strength low alloy structural steel with 50,000 psi minimum yield strength.

· ASTM A606: Standard specification for steel for bridges and buildings.

· BS 4360: Specification for steel for general building purposes.

Grades and properties

Grade A36: Yield strength of 36,000 psi (248 MPa) and tensile strength of 58,000 psi (400 MPa).

Grade A572: Yield strength of 50,000 psi(345MPa) tensile strength of 70,000 psi(483MPa).

Grade A588: Yield strength of 50,000 psi(345MPa) and tensile strength of 70,000 psi (483 MPa).

Grade A606: Yield strength of 42,000 psi (290 MPa) and tensile strength of 60,000 psi (414 MPa) specifically designed for bridges and buildings.

Chemical Composition

· Carbon: typically, 0.20 – 0.30 %

· Manganese: Typically, 0.70 – 1.00%
